JV's Rebound, Whip Wildcats 5-0

The Glencoe JV team closed out the first half of the 2008 Fall schedule with a home match at Hare Field by seizing the opportunity to do unto Wilsonville that which was done to them by Liberty; ripping the Wildcats' net for five goals and securing a shutout. Anthony Pernisco opened the scoring for the Tide in the first half with a blistering free kick 30 yards in front of goal. Four minutes later, Stuart Crook capitalized on a long cross from Pernisco and put away a six-yarder for the 2-0 lead.

In late stages of the second half, Noe Escalera took a pass from Zach Furrow and hit an arching shot into the far post upper-left corner to beat the Wilsonville keeper. Stuart Crook intercepted a pass 25 yards out from goal two minutes later and slipped a pass to Gerardo Delgado who beat the keeper with a twelve yard near post shot. Chad Smith closed out the scoring for Glencoe with a solid strike from 25 yards that whistled past the keeper's right at shoulder height. The JV side record at the mid-point is 5-2-0.

Ouch! Liberty Thumps JV's 5-0

The Glencoe JV side took one on the chin last Tuesday as they traveled to Liberty High and were handed a 5-0 defeat at Clive Charles Memorial Field. The Tide were beaten for two goals in the first half but had ambition to pull the game back in the second, however a third goal near the mid-point and two late in the match squashed any hope of a comeback.

Liberty, But Not Justice for All

After fending off a handful of Liberty attacks and battling hard in midfield, the first half ended in a cruel fashion for the Glencoe Tide as the Falcon's Miguel Campuzano dribbled the right side of defense and hooked a 15 yard shot into the upper-right side of the goal to give Liberty a 1-0 lead with 12.1 seconds left before the referee's whistle would have signaled a scoreless first half. After making adjustments at half-time the Tide spent the next 40 minutes backing the Falcons up against their own goal. During one of their few opportunities in the second half Liberty was rewarded with a fluke goal after a collision in the box let the ball role slowly and painfully into the Glencoe goal with twelve minutes left to play in the match. The Tide was able to pull back a goal two minutes later as Ben Miramontes converted on a penalty kick after Liberty was charged with a hand ball in the box. The Tide spent the final minutes surging in a series of attacks against the Falcon goal, but could not pull off an equalizer.

Both Sides Get the Best of St. Helens

The Varsity side shook off their loss to Hilhi and jumped on St. Helens with two goals in the first half and one in the second to defeat the Lions 3-0 at Hare Field on Wednesday. Eddie Dominguez was first to score about 15 minutes in, followed by a goal by Alex Penny to round out the first half scoring. Tim Misar scored early in the second half for the final goal in the match as the Tide had several other chances in the half but could not get the ball on the underside of the crossbar.

The JV Team dominated their match, scoring eleven goals to St. Helens' one. Forward Daniel Douvris became the third Tide JV player to score a hat trick this season as he capitalized on loose balls in the box for each of his goals. Gerardo Delgado opened the scoring with a beautiful 35 yard chip catching the St. Helens keeper Lathem Faver off his line. Delgado added his second of the match ten minutes later. Stuart Crook notch two goals of his own, as did Juan Carlos Hernandez. Anthony Pernisco got a goal in the first half from a fast break off a Dyan Costigan free kick from the defensive third. Costigan added another assist after feeding Christian Bricenco from the left wing who beat the keeper from 15 yards. The lone St. Helens goal came off a Tide goal kick as the Lions' Luke Haresnape volleyed a Tide goalkick into the goal from 40 yards out.

Hillsboro Stops 23 Straight for Varsity; Topple JV

Twenty-three straight! Never a loss in the NWOC. But now it's over!

Ending a streak hurts. It especially hurts to have it halted by an arch rival. And so it went for the Crimson Tide Varsity Team last Monday as HilHi shut out Glencoe at Hare field 2-0 to end a 23 game NWOC winning streak amassed by the Tide since the league was formed in 2006. In a closely play match, it was Hillsboro who were able to cash in on its chances as Glencoe could not put the ball away and had one hit the post in the latter stages of the game.

The JV Team was unable to contain Hillsboro's long ball attack as they fell 1-3 on the Hare Field south pitch. The Spartans took the lead ten minutes into the match after Hilhi's Alberto Zarate put away a header past keeper Lawrence Chel. The Tide evened up the match closing on half-time when Dylan Costigan's forty yard free kick from midfield found Juan Carlos Hernandez wide open at the far post who slipped it into the net from ten yards. Glencoe fought hard to keep the match in midfield throughout the second half, but two late goals broke the Tide's back to hand the JV's their first loss of the year.

JV's Find the Net Ten Times Against Century

Anthony Pernisco scored the first of his three goals in the early minutes of the match to get the Glencoe JV side off to a blistering start against Century on Thursday at the new 53rd Street fields in Hillsboro. Pernisco's hat trick was equaled by Gerardo Delgado who notched three quality goals in the second half. Joining in on the scoring was Daniel Douvris who buried an eight-yarder after a 15 yard blast by Noe Escalera was blocked off the line. Graham Dunn knocked home a goal by putting away a rebound off a Chad Smith corner kick. Escalera got one of his own after his 35 yard cross from midfield was mishandled by the keeper to drop in for a goal and scored a second off a beautiful far post pass across the top of the six yard box from Delgado. Century broke through the Tide back line 30 yards out to slip a goal past on-rushing keeper Lawrence Chel who shut down two previous Jaguar breaks with excellent saves. The 10-1 victory keeps the JV record unblemished at 3-0-0.

JV & Varsity Savor Success Against Sherwood

The Tide Varsity capitalized on some Sherwood defensive errors to jump out to a quick 4-0 lead in the first half of their NWOC league match at Hare Field on Monday. Sherwood was able to avoid the shutout with a goal early in the second to end the scoring for a 4-1 victory for Glencoe. Corbin Pitts tallied two goals with Ben Miramontes and Zach Alten getting a goal each.

The JV's enjoyed a first half lead off a goal by Gerardo Delgado after controlling much of the play. Following the break, Sherwood backed the Tide up against their own goal for fifteen minutes and were rewarded with the lead after scoring two unanswered goals. Glencoe manged to regain their composure to move much of the play back into the midfield. Nearing the 65th minute Juan Carlos Hernandez scored the 2-2 equalizer off a beautiful one-two pass with Daniel Douvris split the Sherwood back line. Minutes later Delgado picked up his second goal as he slipped a far post push-pass past the keeper after receiving a perfectly weighted through-pass from midfield by Hernandez. Glencoe displayed grit and composure to go 2-0-0 in league play with the 3-2 come back from behind win.
